“The SMP has been instrumental in guiding our decision-making process,” explains Wilkinson. “It helps us to identify areas at risk, evaluate potential management options, and prioritize our resources accordingly.”

Maintaining and upgrading coastal defences, exploring nature-based solutions, and undertaking managed realignment projects all require significant investments of time and resources.

“It’s been a constant battle to secure the necessary funding, but we’re not going to let that stop us,” says Cllr. Moores. “The future of our coastline is simply too important, and we’re committed to exploring every avenue to double-check that that we have the resources we need to protect it.”
The council has also been exploring innovative financing models, such as public-private partnerships and community crowdfunding initiatives, to supplement traditional funding sources. “By leveraging a diverse range of funding streams, we’re able to maximize the impact of our coastal management efforts and double-check that that they are sustainable in the long term,” explains Wilkinson.
