Buyer sought for former fire station

By Paul Johnston at

West Kirby’s former fire station is up for sale.

The site, behind the Concourse, has been vacant since Mersey Fire and Rescue Service closed the station in 2016.

A new station opened in Saughall Massie earlier this year as a joint replacement for both West Kirby and Upton – part of a move by the service to balance its books following cuts in central government funding.

The building and attached car park is being marketed as suitable for redevelopment for commercial or residential purposes, meaning the land could potentially become flats, office space or a retail/food store.

Inside the former fire station

The brochure from property agents Eddisons states: “The existing property comprises a purpose built two storey fire station built in the early 1970’s of steel framed construction with concrete block and glazed elevations under a flat roof.

“Internally the property comprises two storey admin and amenity block with single storey three bay appliance area, drill tower and rear canopied vehicle wash. Externally, the site to the front and rear has a tarmac surface.”

The sale document does not state the asking price, but the 2018/19 Mersey Fire and Rescue Service accounts gives it an asset value of £200,000.

Offers for the half-acre site that are conditional on the buyer successfully gaining planning permission for redevelopment will be considered.
